Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone has only three orthopaedic surgeons and no facility where complex spinal surgeries can be performed. The health care system in Sierra Leone is generally poor and in 2007 the country had the highest level of child mortality in the world.
Tom Johnson Jr, president of the nonprofit Africa Surgery Inc, identifies patients in desperate need of medical treatment. Over 100 patients, including one brave boy called Jusu Moseray, have been flown from Sierra Leone to FOCOS Ghana for life changing surgery. FOCOS performs yearly medical missions to Sierra Leone where new spine cases are assessed and post op patients are treated.
