Last week Prof. Boachie-Adjei and his team traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital, to provide follow-up care for patients and perform surgeries. He was accompanied by Dr. Yankey (FOCOS Surgeon), Bezawit (FOCOS surgical scrub nurse), and Henry (Research nurse). The team worked to insert 19 growing rod lengthenings, saw over 227 new patient cases, and followed up with 60 post-operative patients. Prof. Boachie-Adjei quoted at the end of the trip, "No end in sight."
One of the trip highlights included follow-up with FOCOS patient Gabriel whose life was changed by FOCOS 3 years ago. Prior to surgery Gabriel was a quadriplegic for 6 months. He is now walking and back to school.
