Nursing is a profession of giving, of dedication, and spiritual passion. And no one is exemplifying these qualities better than the nurses of FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital, as they continue to celebrated Annual Nurses Week of 2016. Spearheaded by the FOCOS Nursing Leadership and the entire nursing team, this week of events sought out to highlight the often underrepresented work that the country’s nurses do for the healthcare community.
Monday: May 9, 2016
The festivities started on Monday May 9th, with an ambitious 4 mile walk from Madina, a suburb in Accra, to the entrance of FOCOS hospital in Pantang, Ghana. The staff of FOCOS joined the nurses in the grueling journey, and while feet were sore, spirits soared with songs, chants, and fliers of commemoration. Once the team reached the gates of FOCOS, everyone broke into their own unique songs and poems, honoring the work the hospital does in spinal and joint reconstruction to patients that come all across Africa and the world. Listening to the singing, it was clear that FOCOS nurses really understand the goal put forth by Founder and CEO Professor Oheneba Boachie-Adjei: to alleviate pain and disability through the best orthopedic surgery services Ghana/the world has to offer.
The walkers were rewarded with decorations all across the compound and a scrumptious breakfast in the cafeteria. The media showed up to capture the events, interviewing Founder and CEO Professor Oheneba Boachie- Adjei and Dr. Irene Adorkor Wulff (Chief of Anesthesia), Mrs Leticia Osei Poku, CAO, in addition to Director of Nursing Ms. Jemima Owusu, RN. Everyone was so proud to speak about the great work that FOCOS was doing including the promotion of excellence in the practice of nursing to assure quality patient and family care.
Tuesday-Friday: May 10 -13, 2016
The celebration continued on Tuesday through till Friday with a spotlight on an important health issue in the country and video presentations:

- Video presentations by Nurses shown on the large screen video at the Out-Patient Department of the hospital.
Saturday: May 14, 2016
The FOCOS nurses performed public health screenings at Peduase. They felt no one should miss out on this chance to learn about preventive health FOCOS was offering. The celebration concluded with breakfast for the nurses at FOCOS Hospital Cafeteria followed by closing remarks by nursing leadership.
