YLF Raises Over $60,000 At Third Annual Ball

On March 20th, 2015, The Young Leaders of FOCOS (YLF) hosted their Third Annual Black & White Masquerade Ball at the Apella Event Space at Alexandria Center in New York City. The Hennessy sponsored event had a Casino Royale theme accompanied with casino games, such as blackjack, craps, roulette and an exclusive VIP poker tournament with a chance to win a gambler’s dream getaway to Las Vegas.

Over 200 guests enjoyed a premium open bar and used casino “funny munny” to win prizes including an exclusive weekend stay in Atlantic City. Guests were also able to bid on silent auction items, including a 7-night stay at a St. John villa, designer items and autographed memorabilia. Light fare and desserts were catered by celebrity chef, Tom Collichio’s Riverpark restaurant.

Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, MD, founder of FOCOS, was also in attendance mingling with volunteers and supporters before putting on his “poker face” for the VIP tournament. He founded FOCOS (Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine) in 1998 to provide optimum orthopedic care to patients in his native Ghana and throughout Africa.

Guests enjoy several casino games.

The Young Leaders of FOCOS was established in 2009 by a group of young volunteers after their first mission trip to Ghana, West Africa. Understanding the urgent need for patient care, YLF seeks to raise awareness and funding to support the FOCOS mission. Akilah King celebrated her last year as Co-Chair of YLF.  To date, YLF has engaged hundreds of supporters and has raised more than $300,000 for the FOCOS mission.
