Thursday, August 11, 2016, the FOCOS Hospital held and celebrated the sod cutting ceremony for the new childrens ward.  This exciting new project has now begun and will be completed in the next 9 months.  In attendance were the medical officers, management team, FOCOS board members, architects, contractors, patients.  

We are so excited to share this news.  Stay tuned and we thank all the donors who help to make these FOCOS dreams possible.

FOCOS Contingent at SRS IMAST Meeting

This past week FOCOS physicians from Ghana and Spain participated in the SRS (Scoliosis Research Society) IMAST (International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques) in Washington DC. Professor Boachie-Adjei, Dr. Irene Wulff, Dr. Ferran Pellise and Dr. Cristina Sacramento-Dominguez presented their clinical research from the FOCOS Hospital. 

The FOCOS physicians also had the opportunity to visit the K2M Headquaters and were given an offical tour of the new facilities by Mr. Eric Major who is the K2M CEO. We thank K2M for their continued support.

Nursing is a profession of giving, of dedication, and spiritual passion. And no one is exemplifying these qualities better than the nurses of FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital, as they continue to celebrated Annual Nurses Week of 2016. Spearheaded by the FOCOS Nursing Leadership and the entire nursing team, this week of events sought out to highlight the often underrepresented work that the countrys nurses do for the healthcare community.

John Francis Delina (Francis) is a twelve-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with severe scoliosis (severe thoracolumbar dextrorotoscolios with kyphosis). The severe 110 degree S curvature of Francis’ spine will eventually result in pressure on the lungs. As the curvature progresses, doctors have determined that it is likely that his lungs will be eventually be punctured as the pressure increases. Paralysis is also a foreseeable risk in the future should the condition go untreated.

The former UN Secretary-General, Busumubru Kofi Annan paid a visit to FOCOS Othopaedic Hospital at Pantang in Accra, Ghana on Wednesday, January 6th, 2016. Mr. Annan, who was on a familiarization tour of the hospital, met with FOCOS President and Founder, Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei,  the Chief Administrative Officer, Mrs. Leticia Osei-Poku and the Development Manager, Mr. Kingsley Asiedu Koranteng, both of the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital.

Volunteers Provide Spinal and Orthopedic Screening Program

Long-time FOCOS volunteers, Diane Gums and Phyllis D'Ambra, have teamed up with former FOCOS Board Member, Bettye Wright, to create the Spinal and Orthopedic Screening Program in Ghana.  Diane and Phyllis, who are nurses at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, have donated their time and professional expertise for the past several years, traveling to Ghana at least once per year.

YLF Raises Over $60,000 At Third Annual Ball

On March 20th, 2015, The Young Leaders of FOCOS (YLF) hosted their Third Annual Black & White Masquerade Ball at the Apella Event Space at Alexandria Center in New York City. The Hennessy sponsored event had a Casino Royale theme accompanied with casino games, such as blackjack, craps, roulette and an exclusive VIP poker tournament with a chance to win a gambler’s dream getaway to Las Vegas.
