In December, 2008, Jusu Moseray tried to stand erect for his photograph below. But, at age seven, his spine was deforming due to a tuberculosis infection and he was becoming paralyzed. Jusu completed a six month regimen of anti-tuberculosis medications provided by the World Health Organization. He was lucky in that after his tuberculosis was cured, the pressure was removed from his spinal cord, and he regained the full use of his legs. He could even play soccer with his friends.
ASI sent Jusu from Sierra Leone to Ghana for spinal surgery by a team from FOCOS in November, 2009. After returning to Sierra Leone, Jusu stood straight and tall as he took some time out from playing to be photographed in February, 2010. With his spine now stabilized, Jusu is protected against becoming paralyzed again.
