Breaking News! FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital’s First Surgeries Performed

February 20, 2012 was an awesome and milestone day for the FOCOS Hospital.

The first scheduled patient at the FOCOS Hospital underwent a successful bilateral total knee replacement by Drs. Kyle Swanson, Oheneba Boachie-Adjei and Joseph Ogyaadu. All systems functioned well with the help of the anesthesia team headed by Dr. Irene Wulff, bio-medical engineer, Eric Anaman and Mediwise International Co, Ltd.

The two weeks of intense preparation paid off, thanks to all involved. Special thanks goes to FOCOS OR Nurse, Wing-Yee Mazza Chin-Ng, "the whip," for her tenacity and meticulous supervision of the peri-operative processes.

We finally felt at home and lived the long awaited dream we have had for years.

Surgery will continue for the rest of the week, and from there, local surgeons can avail themselves to the state of the art surgical suites.

Thanks to the prayers of many and the support of our benefactors, I believe the best is yet to come.
Oheneba Boachie-Adjei

Congratulations on this tremendous achievement. It has taken much worrk, planning, volunteerism, financial generosity, and the driving force of Dr.Boachie. All volunteers and benefactors should be very proud of this day and of their own part in bringing this project to completion. I am sure that Dr. Andrew is smiling down from Heaven at this very moment.

This is a great accomplishment and evidence that change is possible in Ghana. I've watched change in the health sector move slowly since 1999 and when such events do appear we must celebrate them.

Congratulations to everyone who MADE IT HAPPEN!

Congratulations to Dr. Boachie-Adjei on a fantastic achievement. This will enhance the care of all patients, including those with spinal deformity in need of treatment.

Every time I read or see your news I'm moved.
I'm really glad you could finally begin to operate in the new hospital, thus achieving the big dream of my special Dr. Boachie-Adjei. I hope that this first success is the beginning of many more surgeries!!
One day I hope to see this new hospital and this BIG TEAM in action, and can be of help as they do.
My best congratulations to formidable team of FOCOS and goo on always straight!!;-D

I am glad to see that all of the work and planning has paid off and the FOCOS hospital is ready for the much needed surgeries it will provide. God bless all of those who worked so hard to see the project through, especially Dr. Boachie, who is a truly amazing and inspiring human being as well as an awesome surgeon if there were only more like him this world would be a far better place.

Wishing FOCOS all the best for the future.
