Ethiopia is one of the most populated African nation but due to poverty the healthcare system is seriously under-developed. The World Health Organisation has warned that there are not enough doctors and health workers to care for the country’s 75 million people. Many health staff trained within Ethiopia migrate overseas.

FOCOS partners with Dr Rick Hodes and The American Jewish Distribution Committee (JDC) and helps to treat children in Ethiopia with spine disease. Dr Hodes assesses patients with spinal deformities and refers appropriate patients to FOCOS Ghana for complex spine surgery.
