Tamesha Mayers was 14 when she initially visited Dr Jones in Barbados. She had serve scoliosis. Surgery was the only option to prevent the devastating effects of breathing compromise and cosmetic deformity. In 2000 Tamesha underwent a successful anterior and posterior spine reconstruction by the FOCOS team which lasted 8 hours.

This case represented the first of its kind in Barbados. After surgery Tamesha’s life changed drastically as she states “I am enjoying myself. I go places that I did not go before. The surgery has left me feeling great about myself. It has allowed me to form new and lasting friendships and to meet persons who have scoliosis, letting me know that I was not alone”.
